Thing #17

Tagging and social bookmarking can be very useful for teachers.  However, I do not find it very difficult to find good sites, so I do not see the reason to complicate things even more by having to look through everyone else's favorite sites.  I wouldn't want my favorites to become public either.  I can see how it may be useful for other, but I do not think I will be using this one very often.

Thing # 16

I chose IGoogle as my home page.  I really like Google products because they are so easy to use.  I like all the different organizational tips and to do lists, however, I prefer to write down my to do lists or put them on my phone.  I have to have them available at all times or I will not remember what is on them. Online calendars can be useful if for some reason I do not have my phone or a piece of paper with me. I think they will become more useful when I am a teacher and I have a computer at my desk all the time. I am sure I will have bigger to do lists as well.  I like the to do lists and calendar and home page. I notice I go to the same 3 or 4 pages every time I get on a computer, and instead of using bookmarks, I could have them organized on my home page.

Thing #15

I think Wikis are a great way to coordinate with others online and get information from different sources. Of course, we have to be careful on the reliability of these sources. I prefer to use wikis simply for entertainment and not for factual information. I enjoyed reviewing my blogs and posting my favorite to the apsu23thingssandbox wiki.  I had trouble making my picture stay on the blog though.

Thing #14

I chose Bubbl.Us and Gliffy.com.  I really had fun with Bubbl.Us.  I made a family tree and it was so easy!  I can't believe I didn't know there were free programs like this online.  Gliffy was a little more complicated but it had some pre-made flowcharts that you can change the text in.  I wish I had known about these types of sites before I began college and maybe even in high school.  I sure could have made my projects a lot better.

Thing #13

I created a free account in Zoho.  I must say I had never heard of it, but I really am excited!  I have used Google Docs a few times when I did not have Microsoft Word.  However, it seems that Zoho is easier to use and has more options available.  Who needs to pay for Microsoft Word anymore?  I think the best thing we can all do is purchase internet and make sure we have it available at all times.

Students can use these programs to share documents and work on them together.  It would be a good collaborative way for groups to work on projects online.
